We are excited to chat to Dana Buckler, who runs the ‘Dana Buckler Show’, a successful movie podcast that has been running for almost 5 years!

Who is Dana Buckler?

First let me say thank you for reaching out to me, I’m excited to answer your questions!

A little about myself, I’m originally from Halifax, Nova Scotia. When I was 14 years old, my family moved from Canada to Tennessee.

Over the next few years, we relocated to a number of different locations. I mention this because, moving and being a new kid in school many times over can be incredibly challenging, but thankfully there was one constant in my life that I could always count on, and that was my passion for movies, whenever I would go somewhere new, I always had the movies to keep me company. This is why at 41 years old movies have be the one thing I could always count on, and I will never get tired of living vicariously in the shoes of someone on the big screen for a couple of hours.

When did you start out on your podcast odyssey?

This is always been an interesting question to answer because if you would’ve asked me seven years ago if I thought about getting into podcasting, I don’t think it would have even registered! I always envisioned my career path as that of a DJ, it’s what I was the most passionate about and gave it a 20 year run, unfortunately, The lifestyle really began to wear me out and couple that in with some hearing loss, I had to retire from that career and find something new.

I didn’t even discover podcasting until 2011, that was the year that I got my first iPhone, and while I was in the iTunes Store searching for something related to the movie Jaws, A few of the search results came back with podcast recommendations, I instantly fell in love with the medium and began to consume as many podcast episodes as I could get my hands on.

Buy 2013 I began to think about possibly starting my own, so I did a little bit of research, purchased the equipment that I needed and was off and running by November of that year.

What is the one thing you love about podcasting?

The thing I love the most about podcasting, is the one thing I didn’t even realize would happen because of it, and that is all the amazing connections that I’ve made throughout the years talking to people from around the world, sharing a mutual respect, love, and passion for movies.

How has 2019 been for you so far?

So far 2019 for the podcast has been absolutely amazing, I have really tried to take the show to a higher level than what it’s been, in November 2018 I rebranded the podcast to “The Dana Buckler Show” and brought on several recurring co-hosts, and I’m grateful to each and every one of them for joining me on this odyssey.

What have you been loving recently? Any Albums, Movies, TV Shows, and Podcasts you have been enjoying?

Podcasts: Shat The Movies, F This Movie, We Hate Movies, How Did This Get Made?

Music: as far as music is concerned, I’m not sure if it happens to everyone, but at age 41, I tend to not really listen to the popular music of the day, and seem to be stuck in the 80s, 90s and early 2000’s. Especially with dance music!

TV: these days, I’ve been so busy with the podcast that I haven’t been able to keep up with what’s good on TV, however, I really love the Fargo TV series and Ozark on Netflix

Movies: of course this is the one area that I do spend a lot of time on, listeners of my show will know that I tend not to go to the movies very often, but I do catch a lot of stuff on video on demand. Here are a few that I have enjoyed so far this year, Once Upon A Time in Hollywood, Long Shot, US, Apollo 11 (fantastic documentary), They Shall Not Grow Old, and Triple Frontier

TRUE ROMANCE, Christian Slater, Patricia Arquette, 1993

You have just dropped a True Romance podcast – do feel that movie is still as cool as it was when it was released?

Oh! Absolutely, I rewatched it for the podcast episode we did and it still ranks in my top ten favourite movies of all time.

Finally what is your tip of the day?

It’s important to fail from time to time, because you ultimately learn so much from failure. When I first started the podcast, no one was listening, it’s was by all accounts a failure, I almost gave up, but I took a hard look at what went wrong and changed course, I’m so thankful for the initial failure!
