Swedish artist Naah follows up her last single ‘Goodbye My Darling’ with new single ‘Better Than Love’. She talks to us about the track, her music and more.

For those that may not have discovered you yet tell us about your sound?

My sound is pretty fluid, but I would say alt-pop describes it best. One thing that I’ve noticed is that I like it when productions are pretty minimalistic but with noticeable drums. I like to experiment with synths and to mix vocals as an instrument.

I listen to everything from indie rock-bands to hyper-pop, and that influences my writing in different ways, but one thing most of my songs have in common is quirky lyrics and easy melodies.

We are curious about your name and whether there is a story behind it?

It’s really just a play with letters, my real name is Hanna and I thought it was a bit too lame as an artist name so me and my friends just switched it up to Naah. I like how simple it is and also that it has a double meaning to it.

Today sees the release of your new single ‘Better Than Love’ what are the themes behind the song?

Last year was the worst time for me and not just because of the coronavirus. I was quite depressed and couldn’t be creative at all for the first time in my life. I spent lots of time with my friends and they really helped me through it and when I finally could write again I noticed that I struggled lyrics-wise.

Before, I often wrote about heartbreaks but that felt quite off to write about now cause It’s not really a part of my life at the moment. So I simply wrote this song as a tribute to my friends. It was super easy and fun and I honestly don’t know why I haven’t done it before. They are such a big part of my life and really deserve it.

What can we expect next?

I’m planning to release one single every month this summer and I’m currently working on finishing my debut album. It’s a really cool piece and it’s quite different from what I’ve released before, so I’m super excited about sharing those songs and the artwork!

You grew up in Stockholm – where are some of your favourite places to visit?

My favorite place is a beach that is called ‘’Hundbadet’’ and it’s located in Hornstull. It’s super nice to visit during the summer because it’s a beach in the middle of the city and not crowded at all except for dog-owners that want to take their dogs for a swim. I think people choose not to go there because of the dogs, but really, that’s my reason to go there cause I love dogs!

Finally – what was the last book you read, tv show or movies you watched and album you listened to?

The last book I read was Murder on the Orient Express. I used to read a lot but stopped during my teenage years, so now I’m trying to find my way back to it. I found this list online with the books “you must read’” and this one was on that list so I started with that one. I actually enjoyed it and To Kill a Mockingbird is next on the list so my hopes are big
