Stockholm-based artist Kamos shares his melancholic debut single

The word ‘kaamos‘ is a Finnish word in reference to the polar night, when the sun barely rises above the horizon and you have beautiful blue colours in the sky. This special, peaceful and melancholic atmosphere describes Stockholm-based artist Kamos’ music, showcased in his new single. Where are you from and what are your favourite places to experience there?

I was born in a Swedish speaking region called Ostrobothnia in Finland but currently living in Stockholm, Sweden. In Stockholm I live close to the Old Town and I love to to walk around among the old buildings there. The archipelago is stunningly beautiful, especially in the summer. Best thing about Ostrobothnia is the nature, fresh air and the peaceful silence.

How would you best describe your sound?

My music tends to be quite peaceful and melancholy. I like to keep the instrumentation organic, authentic and not too influenced by whatever the current trend. It sometimes has a cinematic quality to it.

What have you got planned for the year?

I have several songs coming out this year. I am also involved with a Swiss artist called Animor and we are currently working on new material for her. Hopefully if the world starts opening up again this year I can go back to doing live gigs and writing sessions like before the pandemic.

When can we expect to see you start to play some online or live music?

My hopes are that things will ease up for the summer and live venues will start booking artists again. I used to do a lot of gigs in piano bars before the pandemic and I really miss that. Maybe going live online would help with that. Good idea!

What can we do to help support your music and where do we need to go to do that?

You can follow my Instagram at @kamosmusician or follow me on Spotify at Kamos

Adding me to your playlists and listening to my music is the best way of supporting.

Finally, what was the last thing you read, watched, and listened to?

Currently reading The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami. Recently watched a six hour discussion program on PBS with Joseph Campbell (Professor in mythology), SUPER interesting. I like listening to indigenous music from Africa. I love it because it´s genuine and completely free of ego. In a way it has a mindful quality to it – simply tuning in to the sound of life.
