Last year Jesse Markin released the excellent ‘FOLK’ – his debut album as a solo artist. We caught up with him to tell us more about himself and what he has coming next.
For those that may not be familiar with your music how would you best describe your sound?
A fusion of many genres that really move me, ranging from soul to hip hop
Who do you cite as some of your influences or artists who you look up to or inspired by?
Madlib, Jay Dilla, Mos Def, Bon Iver, Michael Kiwanuka, Sufjan Stevens, Thundercat are definitely somewhere on the list
It has been a year since the release of the excellent FOLK album – what have you got lined up next?
More music and new projects. More about those as soon as possible!
You grew up in the Finish village Viljakkala what was it like growing up there and when did you start writing music?
It was a good place to grow. That’s where i also started writing at the age 13
When people can travel again what are your recommended spots to visit in Finland?
Helsinki definitely for the cultural experience. Festivals are usually pretty awesome too but considering our current situation with the world I don’t think any festivities will be taking place during the summer.

What have you been listening to, reading, or watching under this lockdown? Any great recommendations for us?
I’ve been watching a series called The Man In the High Castle, a strong recommendation
Finally, what is your tip of the day?
Take it easy and be safe…that’s a tip for everyday.
We really recommend you check out the album which you can find on Spotify !
