Nordic New Music: Mauv

We love it when someone makes a Nordic music playlist on Spotify (thankyou Nordic Music Review) allowing us to discover a ton of awesome bands – over the next few months and weeks you’ll get to discover some amazing new talent – starting with Mauv!

Tell us who you are and what’s your sound

We have honestly no idea what to call our sound. Some people say its indie rock, others say its alternative. Someone even coined the genre ”painkiller-pop” once. That sounded fun.

But yeah we’re just a couple of friends who love playing together and even more so on stage.

What exciting projects have you got coming up?

Well corona kind of ruined some fun plans for the summer, but we are in the process of writing a ton of new songs (and possibly an album not too far in the future)!

Where did you grow up and what music influenced you?

For the most part we come from a town called Halmstad in Sweden. We’re all influenced by a ton of different artists and that is kind of why we have a hard time labeling our music because its so spread out!

What cool places do you recommend to visit in your city (bars, restaurants, etc)?

Well lets see.. You could almost always run into us at a local karaoke bar called ”Azalea” here in Malmö, Sweden. Some other cool places to mention are ”Plan B” and ”Mässingshornet”.

We love recommendations – what have you been listening to, watching, or reading recently?

Been paying attention to local bands actually! You should definitely check out some of them!

  • Boy with apple
  • FEWS
  • No suits in miami
  • Baby Jesus

A good movie to check out is ”Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”, (bring out the tissue box though).

Some books:

  • ”Any Human Heart” by William Boyd
  • ”The Lighthouse Between the Oceans” by M.L. Steadman

Finally, what was the last thing that made you swear out loud?

Police brutality.
