Nordic New Music: Johan Kull

We spoke to Johan Kull who has just released his new single Dream and is totally fresh to the music scene. The Swedish singer tells us what to expect next from him.

Tell us who you are and what is your sound

I am a 31 year old musician and producer based in Stockholm, Sweden.  I have always loved dreamy soundscapes and layers of harmony. My music could be described as melodious and emotional alternative pop with influences from dream-pop and shoegaze.

What exciting projects have you got coming up?

My debut single finally got released last Friday (28th August). Hopefully I will give you another single this year and an EP next summer.

Where did you grow up and what music influenced you?

I grew up in the south part of Sweden in a small town in the woods. There were nothing much else to do but playing and listening to music. My biggest influences right now are Bon Iver, Finneas, Phoebe Bridges and Sigur Rós.

What cool places do you recommend to visit in your city (bars, restaurants, etc)?

Stockholm is a green beautiful city with lots of isles and water. I would suggest you get a beer at the cosy little café and brewery Monks or enjoy the fantastic vegetarian food at Falloumi.

We love recommendations – what have you been listening to, watching, or reading recently?

Lately I have been listening to Taylor Swift latest album Folklore. Also the Swedish artist Skott just released her debut album which I have been really liking.

Finally, what was the last thing that made you swear out loud?

In 2020 its seems hard to pick just one thing, but the latest thing would be the terrible shooting of Jacob Blake.
