Quantum Dot discuss their new single and joining forces with Icelandic singer Thorunn Egilsdottir

We spoke with Quantum Dot who recently joined forces with Icelandic singer Thorunna Eglisdottir – here Patrick from the band tells us how they managed to join forces.

Quantum Dot also provided us with an exclusive listen to one of their tracks as a live session too – enjoy!

For those that have not discovered your music how would you best describe it?

Our melodies are often played on minor chords with an up-tempo drum beat that you can find in Pop and electronic music. Some songs are more emotional and melancholic, like “Okay” or “Riverbed Sleep”, but others have more of a dance vibe. Our music is the result of a mixture between live instruments, synths and samples, but also the result of a three different origins coming together in Luxembourg : Iceland, Cape Verde and Belgium.

Talk to us about your new single and your inspiration behind the track?

The inspiration behind the song “Okay” is rather positive : one day the sun will burst into flames and destroy everything we ever did on this planet. Unless Elon Musk finds a way to save humanity of course! But it doesn’t matter, it’s okay if everything turns to dust, we enjoy life and suggest others do too!

How did your paths cross Thorunn Egilsdottir and then bring Quantum Dot back to life?

Since we parted ways with our previous lead singer, we were searching for a replacement. After we saw a video of Thorunn on the Voice of Germany we knew that she could fit perfectly. Her dreamy vocals sounded perfect for a song we had, so we contacted her on Facebook, full of hopes…. But she never answered!

So we went on with our lives, a little depressed, until a year later, when Thorunn wrote back that she liked our stuff and would be in for a collaboration. We had landed in her spam! How offensive…

What is coming next for you? Are you hoping to start playing live soon?

We are planning on producing some new songs. At the moment we haven’t planned on playing live, but starting next year this could be a possibility, and we are looking forward to being back on stage!

Tell us your current favourite book, TV Show, film, and album?

Here is a mix of things we enjoy:

Tv shows: The wire, Futurama, bored to death…

Books: The Almanac of Naval Ravikant. We absolutely love that book. Just started reading 4000 weeks ago, also mind blowing!
