Netflix’s 1899 – we take a look at the Nordic faces in the cast

1899 is getting a lot of hype, and rightly so. From the creators behind the incredible series Dark (a German show that is a sleeper hit on Netflix) comes this mysterious thriller with a huge international cast. It’s a cast that includes some fantastic Nordic talent, so we decided to share who to look out for in the show.

It is worth noting that at this stage we know as much as you might about the series and this article will not reveal much more than that as we patiently wait for its release too.

Lucas Lynggaard Tønnesen

Lucas is a child star from Denmark who you might recognise from the most recent series of Borgen where he played Magnus, before that he was most famous for his role as Rasmus in Danish YA series The Rain (which can be found on Netflix).

Clara Rosager

A familiar face for Lucas is Clara Rosager who also starred in The Rain. The Danish actress is on the cusp of being seen in a lot of new series, including the new series of Darkness: Those Who Kill, Devils, and a couple of movies including Morbius.

Alexandre Willaume

Alexandre will be noticeable from a number of TV shows such as The Head, Equinox, and most recently, Amazon’s The Wheel of Time. He has also had appearances in movies such as Tomb Raider and is soon to be in a Dutch film called Moloch.

The Danish actor joins the rest of his fellow country men.

Maria Erwolter

We are really excited to see Danish actress Maria Erwolter in this series after hearing about some of the crazy stunts involved.

Maria’s debut was in Nicholas Winding Refn’s Pusher 2 where she bullied Mads Mikklesen; she will actually next be seen in a three episodes of his new series Copenhagen Cowboy.

A fun fact about Maria is that she was also in The Ritual where she played ‘The Host’ – which makes us want to go back and endure the horror all over again to try and spot her.

Jónas Alfreð Birkisson

Icelandic star Jonas appeared in an episode of Stella Blomkvist and will soon be seen in Heart of Stone which also stars the likes of Gal Gadot and Jamie Dornan. Then there is Natatorium which started shooting in autumn and expected to be released next year.

Jonas’ work also includes appearances in FBI International,

Jonas was always involved with one of our favourite movies of the year – Beautiful Beings, but this time he was working on the set as ‘Main Cast Caretaker’!
