Welcome to a brand-new Home and Design section from Nordic Watchlist on Scandinavian design. Each month we will bring you our pick of the best furniture, lighting, ceramics and household design – both new products and classic re-issues – from across Denmark, Sweden Finland and Norway.
Made by Hand | Flying Lamp
Danish lighting company Made by Hand recently unveiled its Flying Lamp. It’s a free-floating sculpture, created by stretching knitting around an aluminium frame. Designed by Boris Berlin, the pendant lamp was produced very much with sustainability in mind as knitting is a wasteless process. The lamp also features and energy efficient LED light fitting. This relatively large lamp has all the beauty of classic biomorphic Danish design, but made with an unusual and contemporary textile approach. You can watch the video about the making of the Flying Lamp here
Fritz Hansen | Egg Chair & Georg Stool
The Egg chair by Arne Jacobsen is a classic piece of Danish design, and will be familiar to many readers of Nordic Watchlist. To mark its 150th anniversary, Fritz Hansen has produced a limited edition of 150 Egg chairs in forest green leather and features a never-seen-before copper tone stand.
Each of the 150 chairs will bear an engraved metal plaque featuring its unique edition number. And Fritz Hansen has also just unveiled another anniversary edition, this time a limited run of 10 Georg Stool. Fritz Hansen designer Chris Halstrøm has handcrafted 10 individual editions of the stool, each with a different cushion colourway. If you want one of these, you will have to hotfoot it to the Fritz Hansen showroom in Copenhagen.

Orrefors Kosta Boda | Intermezzo & Rock
Småland in southern Sweden is famous for glass production and it two biggest names – Orrefors and Kostaboda – have just unveiled anniversary editions of much-loved pieces.
Celebrating 125 years in Sweden, Orrefors has produced a ‘Gold’ edition of its Intermezzo range of glasses.
The Wine glass has a strand of gold running the length of the stem and the tumbler has a gold bubble in the base. And celebrating the 50th anniversary of Ann Wolff’s iconic Snowball tealight holder, Kostaboda designer Hanna Hansdotter has created a beautiful homage. The ‘Rock’ votives are available in multiple colours, and reinvent the shape and surface of Wolff’s 1970s classic.
Carl Hansen & Søn | Shell chair
And the special editions keep coming. Carl Hansen & Søn has released a 60th anniversary edition of Hans Wegner Shell. Another giant in Danish design, Wegner unveiled his now-famous chair – with its distinctive wing-like seat – at the Cabinetmakers’ Autumn Exhibition in Copenhagen in 1963.
The exclusive edition of the Shell is made of rosewood and oak, and is available with or without seat upholstery in black, matt leather. But you’ll have to be quick if you want one these exquisite chairs as they are only available until 31st December.

Normann | Krenit Bowl & Form Chair
And finally, Normann Copenhagen is injecting new colour into two of its popular designs. First up is a new edition of its Krenit Bowl in green. These elegant but practical bowls were designed by Herbert Krenchel in 1953, and originals exchange hands for quite high prices.
Normann is also issuing its more recent Form Chair in six new colours, including bright red and bright blue. The bowls are on sale both online and in-store and the chairs are available to order.
