Jana: Marked for Life is coming to the BBC! The series, which stars Madeleine Martin, is an adaptation of the famous books by Emelie Schepp, which sees Jana Berzelius getting embroiled in a murder investigation that begins to unravel secrets of her own past.
The series is an action-packed thriller which features a fantastic cast including the likes of Pernilla August, Moa Gammel, and Johan Ulveson.

Walter Presents
The Lost | AVAILABLE NOW | Channel 4
Nothing like a seriously tragic and thrilling Swedish series to kickstart the year and The Lost certainly delivers with that.

Arctic Circle Season 2 | AVAILABLE NOW | Channel 4
In the gripping continuation of the series, Season 2 delves deeper into the unsettling conspiracy weaving together medical mysteries, corporate greed, and global intrigue. Detective Nina Kautsalo’s tranquil existence is shattered when a shocking murder occurs, propelling her into a new police unit’s investigation.
Tasked with unravelling an international hunting society’s involvement, Nina and her team unearth connections to an old murder case from Nina’s past. Racing against time, they expose a web of secrets threatening not only Nina’s family but the entire community.
Against the unforgiving backdrop of the North’s landscapes, a dangerous game ensues between the police and hidden forces. Will Nina unveil the truth before more lives are lost, or will the perpetrators escape justice?

Reindeer Mafia | AVAILABLE NOW | Channel 4
We have been really excited to catch these series and we are delighted to share that this series is going to be getting a release on Walter Presents next month!
The series, also known as Poromafia, sees a family arrive in Northern Finland to gather what inheritance they might have after their mother passes – but naturally things aren’t as simple as that and a power struggles soon ensues.
The series has plenty of recognisable faces and some new ones too! Sopranos on Ice anyone?

Top Dog Season 2 | OUT NOW | Channel 4
Those of you who were over the moon to finally get to see Top Dog Season 1 last year can be even happier to hear the news that the second season is on its way to Walter Presents! We can’t wait to see how things will pan out after the end of the first series, which almost had everything neatly tidied up. All that we know about this series is that Alexej Manvelov has a different jacket (that was all we could get out of Josefin Asplund when we spoke to her about the previous series back in 2023).

Carmen Curlers Season 2 | 28th July | Channel 4
You all know how much we loved Carmen Curlers – and we couldn’t be happier to hear that the series will return (likely closer to the end of the year) with its second season which means we can pick things up exactly where they were left and see what chaos and emotions the gang will bring in the second season.
One of the series stars Nicolai Jørgensen has given us a brief tease in his most recent interview with Nordic Watchlist.

Evil | 16th August | Channel 4
Evil has been picking up lots of attention in 2023 and it is really exciting to see a series that is so fresh and new come to UK screens so quickly! The series is based in a Swedish boarding school (these boarding schools always seem quite problematic don’t they?) when a troubled young man gets kicked out of his school he gets moved to a new one which seems to be even worse. Things escalate when he embarks on a ill-advised relationship with one of the staff there.
With a solid young cast and director Erik Leijonborg (The Last Kingdom and Thicker Than Water) this should be a really exciting and different story to get stuck into.

Hostage | End of Summer | Channel 4
It feels like so long ago when we watched Stockholm Requiem on Walter Presents – it went on to be one our favourite Nordic series of the year and we had almost given up hope of ever seeing the second season let along it ever being made. The series’ main star Liv Mjönes had hinted at something a long time back about there being a story ready but this was in the height of covid when everything was up in the air.
This new series is focused a few years later from the previous series and its narrative is slightly different this time round as we find our detective duo Fredrika Bergman (Liv Mjönes) and Alex Recht (Jonas Karlsson) tackle a hijacking situation which is over the course of the six episodes (rather than there being a series of stories this will follow one key storyline) – we really can’t wait for this!

Everything You Love | TV Series | 25th August | Walter Presents/Channel 4
Everything You Love is a poignant exploration of today’s youth’s hopes, fears, and struggles. Sara, new to Oslo, reconnects with Jonas, a boy from her past, and they quickly fall deeply in love. However, as their relationship blossoms, Sara starts noticing unsettling changes in Jonas, who is being drawn into a dangerous right-wing extremist ideology.
Jonas finds solace in Sara, but his growing radical beliefs strain his friendships and his connection with her. When Sara discovers his involvement in extremist forums, she’s forced to confront the dark side of the man she loves. As she grapples with the reality of who Jonas is becoming, the series questions whether love can overcome the pull of a destructive ideology, or if it will be shattered by it.
Something entirely new and once that has not been on our radar – we are intrigued by this one!

Netflix
Young Royals Season 3 | AVAILABLE NOW | Netflix
Young Royals has been an incredibly popular series for Netflix and has been met with huge love from all over the world so it will be exciting to see how they wrap this all up and how the story will end.

Midsummer Night | AVAILABLE NOW | Netflix
Things will kick off with something a little light and fluffier as the great Per-Olav Sørensen (The Playlist and A Storm for Christmas) returns with his new series Midsummer Night on Netflix.
On the day of midsummer, marking the year’s longest day amidst celebrations, romance blossoms. Yet, this is also the moment Carina and Johannes decide to unveil a significant secret to their family and friends after three decades of marriage, setting off a chain of unexpected events.
The series has a huge cast including the likes of Pernilla August (Young Royals), Dennis Storhøi (A Storm for Christmas), and Amalia Holm (Delete Me).
Deliver Me | AVAILABLE NOW | Netflix
Deliver Me, the latest gritty series to hit Netflix, is directed by the talented Anna Zackrisson, known for her compelling and intense series Snow Angels. Zackrisson herself has hinted to Nordic Watchlist that the series maintains her trademark emotional depth, warning that it’s “sad again, I’m afraid.”
The series delves into the lives of two childhood friends whose paths tragically diverge when they become entangled with a local gang, culminating in a fatal confrontation. It raises poignant questions about accountability when minors commit grave offenses and the societal implications of demonising them. Deliver Me meticulously explores the fallout of children overlooked due to systemic failures such as neglect, poverty, and social isolation. It casts a wide net, showing how the ripple effects of youth violence touch everyone in a community, from single mothers to the local grocer and law enforcement, as it tears through the fabric of struggling neighbourhoods.

Baby Fever (Season 2) | TV Series | 22nd August | Netflix (Worldwide)
For those that haven’t seen the first season then skip past this as we reveal the synopsis of the second season which gives you a slight hint as to what might have happened in the first season (mind you so does the name of the series).
Nana (the ever brilliant Josephine Park), now a new mother, is struggling with maternity leave and decides to beg her old boss, Helle, for her job back. Helle agrees, but only if Nana can start immediately. Desperate for childcare, Nana reluctantly turns to her eccentric mother, Lisa LaCour, who moves in to help. Back at the clinic, Nana faces competition from a new star doctor, the flawless Hampus. To complicate things further, Nana’s old flame, Mathias, reappears, still unaware he’s the father of her child. Nana is torn between keeping her secret and coming clean.

VIAPLAY UK & USA
Börje – The Journey of a Legend | AVAILABLE NOW | Viaplay USA
We will now be covering releases in the USA when they come to Viaplay and to start things off is Börje – The Journey of a Legend which tells the story of National Hockley League icon Börje Salming. The series is directed by Amir Chamdin (Partisan) and stars Valter Skarsgard in the lead role.

Call Me Dad | 4th June | VIAPLAY USA
Those of you in the USA with Viaplay might be excited to see a new Alex Høgh Andersen series – this time around he is trying his hand at a bit of comedy. The series is based on an idea that he and his co-star Magnus Haugaard came up with; a comical (and at times stressful) story of the forever chilled Emil (Alex Høgh Andersen) who discovers that his best friend Viktor (Magnus Haugaard) is dating his mother. Emil’s patience is tested to the limit, given that Viktor is not only his best friend but also his business partner. And then throw into the mix Emil’s girlfriend Carla (Roberta Hilarius Reichhardt), who is driving everyone up the wall.
This has some great dark Danish humour, and it is refreshing to see Alex Høgh Andersen in a different role, which he is enjoying too! Look out for our interview with the star later this month, and let’s hope the series travels over to the UK soon too.

The Minister (Season 2) | TV Series | 19th August | Viaplay UK
The acclaimed Icelandic political drama, starring Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (Trapped) as Iceland’s newly elected Prime Minister, Benedikt Ríkharðsson, returns for a gripping second season. The eight-part series premieres in the UK on Viaplay on 12 August.
Following the dramatic conclusion of season one, where Benedikt revealed his bipolar disorder to the nation, season two sees him back in action, determined to transform Iceland’s mental health policies while facing new political and personal challenges.
We are so excited to Ólafur Darri Ólafsson back on our screens – it seems like such a long time since we last saw him in a series!

Veronika | TV Series | 20th August | Viaplay USA
Combining spectral elements with your typical Scandi police procedural, Veronika gives us an unreliable protagonist and a small town burdened by secrets of the past.
Alexandra Rapaport excels as the titular detective in this eight-part series, truly looking like a woman on the brink. We piece together three murders alongside her, questioning everything we see and hear. It seems like her career, her marriage and home life and the peace of this small forest town are all reliant on her ability to solve these crimes. Tobias Santelmann, Karin Bertling and Arvin Kananian make up an impressive cast.
Offering up commentary on mental health, grooming, social class and “the hysterical woman” trope, Veronika is an unusual, engaging series that will leave you gripped right up until the very last seconds.

Threesome (season 2) | TV Series | 20th August | Viaplay USA (Available on Viaplay UK
The hit Swedish series returns with the second season released in the USA on Viaplay, and the series is already available here in the UK.
The series picks up exactly where we left off (which we won’t spoil here) with our two characters, Siri (Matilda Källström) and David (Simon Lööf), entering into a challenging moment in their relationship – will they be able to overcome it?
Both stars put in a phenomenal performance – well worth a watch (and easy to get through with the episodes on 20 or minutes long).
You can read our interview with Matilda Källström when we spoke to her about the first season and look out for a future interview with Simon Lööf.

We will be sure to keep updating this page with the release dates and further shows as soon as we get any further news so keep coming back just in case!
