On the 18th March Netflix launched a huge event in Stockholm called NEXT – the aim of the event was to reveal a slate of new Nordic TV Series and films coming to the streamer in the next couple of years and we are here to share some of the really exciting titles that are expected. Buckle in because we are going to be spoilt rotten by the streamer!
2024
A Part of You | Film | Sweden | 31 May 2024
A Part of You unfolds as a tale of life and death, capturing the essence of being 17 years old and experiencing the sensation that your heart is on the verge of bursting from your chest.
Agnes finds herself in the shadow of her older sister Julia, who possesses everything Agnes yearns for: the epitome of coolness at school, the life of every party, and the romantic involvement with Noel. Agnes harbors a deep desire to emulate her.
However, when a devastating event shatters Agnes’ world, she is compelled to reconstruct herself. In this process, she stands on the brink of attaining everything she has ever longed for, yet she must grapple with the question of what price she is willing to pay.
The film is directed by Sigge Eklund and stars Edvin Ryding (Young Royals), Felicia Maxine (also Young Royals), Ida Engvoll (Love & Anarchy) and famous Swedish pop star Zara Larsson. We think this one is going to be very very popular!

Trouble | Film | Sweden | Fall 2024
Divorced and working as salesman for an electronics chain Conny lives for one thing and that is getting time to spend with his daughter Julia. But one day his life is turned upside down when he is innocently convicted of murder and put into prison – things get even more complicated once he is inside when his fellow inmates mistake him for a pilot (which is in fact his ex-wife’s new partners profession). An escape plan is made where he will have to fly the getaway plane – and then buy his daughter a horse for her birthday. What could possibly go wrong?
Directed by Jon Holmberg (Swedish Dicks) and featured an incredibly exciting cast including the likes of Filip Berg (pictured below), Amy Deasismont (Thunder in My Heart), and Eva Melander (Border) – to name a few!

The Helicopter Heist | TV Series | Sweden | Fall 2024
One morning in September, 2009, the world had its eyes on a Stockholm suburb where a helicopter had landed on the roof of Sweden’s safest cash depot and all anyone could do, including the police, is watch as robbers disappear along with millions of dollars.
We have been really excited about this one which has been created by Ronnie Sandahl (Tigers) and a cast that includes the excellent Ardalan Esmaili (Snow Angels), Mahmut Suvackci (Top Dog), and Vic Carmen Sonne (Holiday). There are three directors involved aswell with Jonas Alexander Arnby (Those Who Kill), Daniel Espinosa (Snabba Cash), and Anna Zackrisson (Snow Angeles)

An Honest Life | Film | Sweden | Fall 2024
Simon arrives in Lund with eager anticipation, hopeful for the true commencement of his life; however, his enthusiasm is swiftly dashed by the disappointments of law school. Amid a tumultuous protest march, he encounters Max, a young woman with anarchistic tendencies, and quickly falls in love.
Max leads him into a realm of extravagance, deceit, and significant risks, leading Simon down a path where the repercussions become apparent only when escape is no longer an option.
An Honest Life unfolds as a thriller, exploring themes of betrayal, societal class, and the allure of living beyond the bounds of the law.
The film is directed by Mikael Marcimain (Hunt For a Killer) and stars Simon Lööf (Threesome) and Nora Rios (Caliphate).

Baby Fever – Season 2 | TV Series | Denmark
In Baby Fever Season 2 (turn away now if you have not seen the first season) Nana, now a mother to a two-month-old, struggles with maternity leave and persuades her boss, Helle, to let her return to work, promising no more mistakes. Meanwhile, Nana must outshine the new star doctor, Hampus, and deal with the unresolved presence of Mathias, her greatest love and the unknowing father of her child.
We are excited to see how this second season unfolds and we are always excited to see anything with Josephine Park in it!
Billionaire Island | TV Series | Norway | Fall 2024
This series focuses on the global salmon industry and two feuding families who run their businesses in a small coastal community in Norway. It will provide a satirical yet poignant portrait of the fish farming business with an enormous cast of Norwegian stars (picture below) and directed by Anne Bjørnstad in a debut directorial role.
Deliver Me | TV Series | Sweden
You may have already noticed the names Anna Zackrisson and Ardalan Esmaili from their appearance working on Helicopter Heist. Here they are working again in Deliver Me. Directed by Anna Zackrisson, this gritty crime series narrates the tale of two teenage friends who find themselves on opposite paths when one attempts to break free from a local gang. Their story is skillfully intertwined with that of a detective determined to apprehend a drug dealer he believes is behind the murder of a crucial witness.
When we learned that Anna was spearheading this project, we were instantly intrigued—her exceptional work on Snow Angels left us in awe, and we are eagerly anticipating Deliver Me. However, we’re also bracing ourselves, as we expect it to be an intense viewing experience.

The Snow Sister | Film | Norway
Those of you who love a good old Nordic Christmas cracker then you can look forward to The Snow Sister which will be released later this year. Directed by Cecilie Mosli (Thin Ice) the film tells the story of Julian as he approaches his eleventh birthday on Christmas Eve, a day usually bursting with festive joy, an overshadowing sadness threatens to cancel Christmas for him and his family. However, an encounter with the cheerful and Christmas-loving Hedvig reignites Julian’s hope for the holiday, despite the mysterious old man lurking around Hedvig’s unusual house.

2025
The Swedish Connection | Film | Sweden
With the addition of new Nordic noirs, comedies, and love stories, it feels entirely appropriate for Netflix to include a Second World War film, “The Swedish Connection,” a true story based on Gösta Engzell. When Gösta and his team become aware of the atrocities being committed against the Jews, they devise a plan to thwart the Nazis, ultimately saving thousands of lives.
The film is has a huge cast involved (take a look below) and directorial duties land on Thérèse Ahlbeck & Marcus A. Olsson which will be their debut feature film.
Diary of a Ditched Girl | TV Series | Sweden
The incredibly talented Carl Sehn leads this new series which follows the life of 31-year old Amanda. During a summer of relentless dating, 31-year-old Amanda and her friends navigate the tumultuous world of love, experimenting with different approaches from Tinder swipes to bar pickups, in search of meaningful connections. Despite their efforts and varying strategies, Amanda struggles with rejection and the elusiveness of a second date, echoing her friends’ experiences. Together, they ponder the complexities of finding love, societal expectations, and the resilience required to repeatedly offer one’s heart in a seemingly indifferent world.
Little Siberia | Film | Finland
While we still wait for the American adaptation of Antti Tuomainen’s The Beaver Theory we have another adaptation to look forward to, and from a Antti Tuomainen book that I really enjoyed – Little Siberia! The cast is an incredibly strong one with the likes of Eero Ritala (Fallen Leaves), Malla Malmivaara (Deadwind), and Tommi Korpela (Deadwind) with director Dome Karukaoski (Tom of Finland) in the directorial chair).

The Right Track | Film | Norway
Emilie is broke, unorganized, and her ex-husband, who has moved on with his life, wants their daughter to live with him. When an unexpected accident happens in her apartment, she is forced to live with her wealthy and sporty brother, who issues her an ultimatum: if she wants to live with him, then she will have to take part in the Birken, a 54km skiing race. Can Emilie pull off the impossible and prove to the world that nothing is impossible and she is not a loser?
This will be directorial debut by Hans Christian Omsted and features Ada Eide and Trond Fausa Aurvåg.
Barracuda Queens – Season Two | TV Series | Sweden
We are excited to hear about the return of the chaotic girl gang – Barracuda Queens – as Netflix confirms a second season which will see the girls getting back together again and devising ways of making money so they can buy their own places. Will their professional skills as thieves return or will they keep themselves on the straight and narrow? Director Amanda Adolfsson, who directed the previous series, is back calling action – we can’t wait to see where this story goes (and also what soundtrack they might bring us in the new season)!

The Glass Dome | Sweden
Another Nordic thriller to get excited about is The Glass Dome which sees Leonie Vincent (Backstrom) as a behaviourist and criminologist Lejla who heads back to her hometown which is vast becoming a depopulated community. In her previous years there she was held hostage as young girl and it isn’t long until a similar circumstance happens with a young girl disappearing leaving both Lejla and her partner Valter, a retired police officer, to investigate – is history repeating itself?
The concept for this series is by Camilla Läckberg and it will be direct by Lisa Farzaneh (Young Royals/Snabba Cash) and Henrik Björn (Jordskott).

2026
Harry Hole | TV Series | Norway
Jo Nesbø will be debuting as a screenwriter as the streamer bring the famous Norwegian detective to life with this new series. With the famous Exit director Øystein Karlsen directing and the series being based on Nesbø’s The Devil’s Star novel we are incredibly excited to see how this is going to turn out especially with Karlsen involved and working with Nesbø.
No casting has been revealed yet – who would you like to see play the infamous detective?
The New Force | TV Series | Sweden
This will be one of Netflix first Nordic period dramas and what a fantastic line-up this new series has! Josefin Asplund (Top Dog), Agenes Rase (Clark), and Malin Persson (Riders in Darkness) star as Sweden’s first female police officers in 1958. As new recruits they are put in charge of one of the country’s most crime-ridden areas, the Klara police district, but as they start patrolling the streets they soon find that the criminals aren’t their only problem – the resistance from the families and own colleagues is even worse.

The Chestnut Man Sequel | TV Series | Denmark
Yes, you have read that right – a standalone sequel to The Chestnut Man is in the works which will see both Danica Curcic and Mikkel Boe Følsgaard return to figure out a complicated case when a 41-year old woman is found murdered. With Milad Alami directing (Opponent), who is serious hot property at the moment, we are incredibly excited where this new series goes after the success of the previous series!
Je M’Appelle Agneta | Film | Sweden
Based on the novel by Emma Hamberg, the film adaptation follows Agneta – who throws her invisible world behind to find a new meaning in a life as an au-pair in France for a young Swedish boy. It turns out though that the young boy is far from young, and is in fact a eccentric and crazy elderly gentleman. There is nothing more we know at the moment in terms of who will play the 49-year old Ageneta nor who will direct but this certainly sounds like an interesting film!
So – the big questions is: which ones are you looking forward to the most? We really can’t wait for all of them to be honest and we shall be sure to work closely with Netflix to reveal further release dates, interviews, and reviews.
