In Let Go, writer-director Josephine Bornebusch captures the complexities of a family in turmoil. Listen Up | Film | Viaplay | 4th November

Listen Up! (Hør her’a!) is a coming-of-age comedy following Mahmoud, a teenager navigating family, love, and life in an immigrant community outside Oslo. Based on Gulraiz Sharif’s bestselling novel and directed by Kaveh Tehrani, the film stars newcomer Mohammed Ahmed as Mahmoud, who faces a whirlwind summer that takes an unexpected turn when his Uncle Ji arrives from Pakistan, and Mahmoud discovers a life-altering secret about his little brother.

Oxen | TV Series | Channel 4/Walter Presents | 12th November

This is going to be one series you will not want to miss!

Oxen follows Niels Oxen, Denmark’s most decorated war hero (Jacob Lohman) faces fallout after exposing his superior’s misconduct. Wrongfully accused and isolated, he retreats to the woods, only to be implicated in a series of murders.

Teaming up with DSIS officer Margrethe Franck (Josephine Park), he navigates a complex conspiracy where betrayal, power, and justice collide. As the murders continue, their pursuit of truth pushes them to their limits, weaving a tense journey through hidden motives and personal vendettas.

This series is stacked full of famous Danish faces, a high kill count, and a great build-up of tension!

The Snow Sister | Film | Netflix | 29th November

And as we approach December it feels only right that Netflix shares another Christmas offering of theirs and this year it is in the shape of The Snow Sister.

Based on Maja Lunde and Lisa Aisato’s beloved novel, The Snow Sister tells the bittersweet tale of eleven-year-old Julian, whose upcoming Christmas birthday brings painful memories of his sister’s recent passing. Julian finds himself dreading the holiday season, feeling Christmas is lost until he meets the cheerful, festive Hedwig, who rekindles his hope for joy. As their friendship grows, Julian begins to sense mysteries around Hedwig’s life and her unusual home, hinting at secrets that deepen this touching journey through grief, healing, and holiday magic.

Victim by Thomas Egner & Jørn Lier Horst | 7 November | Orenda Books

As a senior police investigator, Norwegian Author Thomas Egner has an inside view on police procedures in the country, Jørn Lier Horst an experienced writer and journalist. Their popular Blix and Ramm series uses that inside knowledge to the best and the latest installment, Victim, is no exception.

A two year old investigation for a missing person remains unsolved, but a kidnapper is emailing the former investigator. A stepfather is arrested for murder but there’s no body to be found and no other suspects. Blix and Ramm can rely on each other but a rogue set of fingerprints threaten that relationship.

Ice Town by Will Dean | 7 November | Hodder & Stoughton

Will Dean’s Tuva series have been a staple for Nordic Noir fans, and this latest standalone Tuva novel, Ice Town sees journalist Tuva Moodyson joining the search for a missing deaf teenager. In a town served by a mountain tunnel with only one way in and one way out, residents begin to vanish and it become clear a serial killer lurks among them. This is a standalone novel so a perfect intro to the world of Tuva.

Can’t Run, Can’t Hide by Yrsa Sigurdardottir | 7th November | Hodder & Stoughton

Author of our book of the year in 2023 (The Prey), Yrsa Sigurdardottir returns to chill us again with Can’t Run, Can’t Hide. The tagline ‘If you think you’re safe, think again’ should give readers a clue that this will be a terrifying and chilling read.

On a freezing winter’s evening in rural Iceland, a neighbour discovers a horrific crime scene at a neighbour’s property. When the police begin to investigate much darker crimes soon come to the surface. Based on her previous works, this will be one to read with the lights on!

The Traitor by Jørn Lier Horst | 21 November 2024 | Michael Joseph

It’s a double entry for fans of Jørn Lier Horst in November, not only do we get his co-penned book with Thomas Egner but The Traitor, a new Wisting novel.

Heavy rain caused a landslide in a residential area and Detective Wisting joins the rescue operation. Luckily it looks like the landslide hasn’t claimed any victims. When a body is found 24 hours later it transpires the victim was murdered before the landslide hit. Is there a killer within the police unit?

Event: Nordic Watchlist Film Club

After a short break, we’re excited to be back with our next Nordic Film Club in November! This time, we’ll be discussing The Trip, Tommy Wirkola’s dark (and violent) comedy starring Noomi Rapace and Aksel Hennie.
