In our first Nordic New Music feature of 2021 we get to know new Swedish musician Seth Martin who delivers a mix of lo-fi beats and guitars in his new track Never Think Twice.
Where are you from and what are your favourite places to experience there?
I was born and raised in Luleå, a small city in the north of Sweden. In the winter, when the sea ice gets thick enough, the city ploughs roads that go around the city centre and out to the archipelago. I love taking a walk on the ice to catch some sunlight. At night, you can drive just an hour out of the city to see some super crisp stars and northern lights.
How would you best describe your sound?
I would describe my music as a chill mix of 1950’s cool jazz and more modern neo soul. My songs are usually based around warm electric guitars, lo-fi beats and soft vocals. Never Think Twice is a romantic celebration of that special someone who is always there for you when you are going through tough times.
I think this type of “cozy” music is hard to come by on the modern market, so I hope and believe that people will like what I do.
What have you got planned for the year?
Other than Never Think Twice, I have a few more songs which I’m really looking forward to releasing in the beginning of 2021. Some of them are a bit more up-tempo and beat driven. There will even be a guitar solo or two!
When can we expect to see you start to play some live music?
I really hope that it will become safe to start playing live shows this summer. Until then, I’ll focus on releasing more studio recordings of my music, as well as a couple of live sessions!
What can we do to help support your music and where do we need to go to do that?
It would mean the world to me if you would follow me on Spotify or whatever streaming service you use! You can also follow me on Instagram and Facebook, where I’ll post all kinds of behind-the-scenes, songwriting and producing stuff!

Finally, what was the last thing you read, watched, and listened to?
Since I’m absolutely obsessed with astronomy and space, the last thing I read was actually an article on the golden phonograph record that is attached to Voyager 1, the first spacecraft to leave our solar system. Absolutely fascinating stuff.
I recently re-watched New Girl, which is – in my opinion – the funniest, quirkiest sitcom ever.
Lastly, I’ve been listening to a lot of Chet Baker lately. There’s something magically soothing about that style of cool jazz, and it has a strong influence on my song writing.
