Meet Sofia Talvik – singer from the west coast of Sweden – who deliver a gorgeous acoustic sound that has folk and Americana roots! We spoke with the singer to see what she has planned in 2021.
Where are you from and what are your favourite places to experience there?
I grew up in the west coast of Sweden on an island called Orust. It’s a really beautiful place in the summertime, but it’s not a very happening place, especially if you’re a teenager. So I moved to Sweden second largest city, Gothenburg as soon as I graduated. I do enjoy coming back to visit my dad who still lives there, and I appreciate the beautiful nature and the sea.
How would you best describe your sound?
I’d say folk mixed with Americana. Lots of acoustic instruments.
What have you got planned for the year?
Well it’s hard to make any real plans still. I stayed positive for a long time in 2020 rescheduling my canceled shows to 2021 only to have been forced to reschedule them again to 2022. I hope that the vaccine will be rolled out quickly so I can play live again in the summer and fall. I might be working on some new recordings too.
When can we expect to see you start to play some live music?
As soon as it’s possible.
What can we do to help support your music and where do we need to go to do that?
Since I can’t play live I have been doing streamed concerts and I’ve been very lucky to have a great support from my fans with these. So tune in to one of my streams on Facebook @sofiatalvikmusic or go to Sofia Talvik and purchase some music, preferably digital 🙂
Finally, what was the last thing you read, watched, and listened to?
I’m reading The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd. I watch some random shows, and recently really liked The Queens Gambit. As for music I listen to a lot of stuff but I’d really like to recommend my friend Jordan Sellergren’s new album Sweet Bitter Tears.
