On Monday night, 25th January, the annual Swedish version of the Oscars took place – the Guldbagge Awards! Discover a quick history of the awards, and all this year’s nominees and winners!
About the Guldbagge Awards
Sweden’s leading film awards, named after the rose chafer beetle, have been presented since 1964, honouring outstanding contributions to Swedish film. Back in 1964 there were just 3 categories, now there are closer to 20 awards available annually across various categories.
“The rose chafer likes to fly in the summer sunshine. It shimmers much like a movie strip as it flies by. Something about its behaviour and its way of living can be likened to that of film. ”
– Artist Karl Axel Pehrson. Taken from the awards website https://guldbaggen.se
Charter has the most nominations this year, in seven categories. We saw and reviewed this great film and can confirm it is an excellent piece of work. There has also been a great podcast released by Girls On Film where they get to speak to both director Amanda Kernell and actress Ane Dahl Torp – listen the podcast HERE
Other highlights include I am Greta, which has been released in the UK and available to watch on BBC iPlayer now; Psykos i Stockholm (Psychosis in Stockholm) which picked up 5 nominations, Orca and Spring Uje, Spring (Run Uje, Run).
