Part of the fantastic Soliti family, Ocelot have released some more music to wrap your ears around. We got to hear from the band on what they have planned for 2021 (if we can plan anything!) and what they have been checking out – plus we got to listen to their new EP Unelmoi released today. Go listen and have a read too!
Where are you from and what are your favourite places to experience there?
Emilia (vocals, piano): I am from Northern Espoo, a place with a multitude of lakes and ponds in the forests that are surrounded by highways and suburbias. When I visit there, I usually go to the lakes for a swim with my mom. Currently I live in Helsinki, really close by the sea, and my favourite thing is to go for a walk with a podcast by the bay area.
Victor (drums): I am from Turku. Since I no longer live there, visiting is mostly just a nostalgic experience these days. Walking around with memories etc. I now live in Helsinki, here I like the closeness to the sea.
Rasmus (bass, vocals): I am from Helsinki, probably the nature around Seurasaari and the sea.
How would you best describe your sound?
V: “Polite experimental pop”
E: Hailing from a mixture of 90s alt pop / 00s alt electronic pop / 10s new-new wave pop & 60s/70s nostalgia dream pop, ending up as in ~ sweet summer night’s pop.
R: Spring and summer vibes.
What have you got planned for the year?
E: We want to record a full length album and get it released by the beginning of next year. We have a couple of live shows planned, however they might be postponed again due to the pandemic.
When can we expect to see you start to play some live music?
V: Probably should ask some epidemiologist.
E: Hopefully in June?
R: Yes, probably. Summer 2021. Maybe?
What can we do to help support your music and where do we need to go to do that?
E: We have music and music videos online, go listen to it! and come to our shows! On the internet we can be found e.g. here:
Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/1xDDGK71huKOEAuA0692gE
Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gzQkx6feEGA
Finally, what was the last thing you read, watched, and listened to?”
E: Lol, watched the whole series of Le Bureau, sick show. I have been reading Rebecca Solnit’s Field Guide To Getting Lost and Bluets by Maggie Nelson. Last thing I listened to was Bleacher’s chinatown (ft. Bruce Springsteen) and Lana Del Rey’s Chemtrails Over the Country Club back to back on repeat Jack Antonoff.
V: Have been watching Le Bureau (5 seasons in 3 weeks…), reading Joan Didion and listening to Pavement.
R: Last thing I read was Isaac Asimov’s Foundation series. Last night I watched Citizen Kane for the first time and also listened to The Walter Metsärinne EP newest single Mark 😉
